Aschau am Inn, July 9, 2019 – BAYERN-CHEMIE, the global technology leader for guided missile and space propulsion systems based in Aschau am Inn, celebrated the 50th anniversary of the company’s founding in July 1969 with a festive event on the factory premises.
Dr. Wolfgang Rieck, Managing Director of BAYERN-CHEMIE, welcomed among the guests Thomas Gottschild, the CEO of MBDA Deutschland, the parent company of BAYERN-CHEMIE, the Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister Hubert Aiwanger and Stephan Mayer, the Parliamentary State Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior and Member of the Bundestag from the constituency of Altötting, as well as the mayor of Aschau am Inn, Alois Salzeder.
In his opening speech, Dr. Wolfgang Rieck emphasised the close ties of BAYERN-CHEMIE with the Aschau plant and the entire region and thanked the employees in particular for their dedication and loyalty: “It is owing to this super team that we, as a comparatively small company, are technology leaders in some areas. The economic situation of the company is excellent and we are well prepared for the future”, said Dr. Rieck.
In view of the current export practices of the Federal Government, Thomas Gottschild appealed to politicians to give industry the chance to remain a reliable partner in the European context as well. “This is the only way to ensure that companies as BAYERN-CHEMIE can continue to be successful in the future”, stated Gottschild.
Bavaria’s Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger added: “For 50 years, BAYERNCHEMIE has been a byword for good ideas ‘Made in Bavaria’. With around 200 employees, it is an important employer in the region and a driver of innovation in aerospace projects. But politics mustn’t stall this engine. We must strike the right balance: Keep export markets open and expand where this is sensible and reasonable.”

Parliamentary State Secretary Stephan Mayer highlighted in his welcoming address the economic significance of the Bavarian Chemical Triangle with 18 companies, around 20,000 employees and more than 10 billion euros in sales per year. The region is thus a key region for the global chemical industry in the heart of Europe.
BAYERN-CHEMIE produces the worldwide unique METEOR ram jet propulsion system, thus supporting the German Air Force and the defense capabilities of the Bundeswehr and its partner forces. In addition, the company manufactures gas generators for an emergency recovery and rescue system for submarines and contributes with its know-how to selected areas of space flight, such as the forward-looking development of propulsion solutions for space shuttles and the so-called “de-orbiting”, i.e. the avoidance of space debris by means of propulsion systems that cause a controlled reentry of discarded satellites.
