The powerful and responsive RESUS-Solid rescue system from Airbus Defence & Space enables submerged submarines to reach the surface quickly in an emergency.
Bayern-Chemie developed the solid propellant, the thermal insulation and the igniter for the system's gas generator. The major challenge was to develop a fuel that produces a non-toxic, non-flammable and hydrogen-free gas that cannot be dissolved in water.
Located in the front and rear main ballast tanks, the gas generators can remain in use maintenance-free for up to 10 years before they have to be overhauled - Bayern-Chemie also takes care of this. Bayern-Chemie has been producing RESUS Solid gas generators in series since 2001.
RESUS Solid systems are used in class 212A and 2014 submarines.
